Fiskars Classic Scissors– all ribbon & gift-wrapping paper fromJakodan

Born in a small village Fiskari, Finland, the orange-handled Classic scissors from Fiskars saw daylight. The world’s first scissors with ergonomic plastic handle – and to me, that’s what Finnish design can and does. Finnish design is a way of living, a mix of good quality, functionality and design spun into a beloved product which can be weaved into daily life.

At the end of this post, I’ve created a stop motion video just for you guys and I hope it’ll be able to summer-fy your day.

Fun Facts about the Classic Scissors.

Since 1967 over a billion pairs of Classic scissors have been sold worldwide.

They are to be found in the permanent collection of MoMA.

The first prototypes were made in four different colours, orange & black were most popular. An internal vote at Fiskars and the result gave birth to the orange-handled scissors.

In 2017 each Fiskars Classic scissors 21 cm in will be engraved with the 50th-anniversary logo.

Fiskars Classic, My Story on Creativity

I’m sure many of you’re already familiar with the iconic scissors. For many of us, it was our mother or mother-like figure who was the first to nurture our creativity.

To me, the Fiskars Classic is a walk down memory lane. From my earliest childhood memories, where my creativity was sparked by my mother up till today where Fiskars’ still a part of my everyday.

Passing on a friend, Passing on Passion

My mother was working as a fashion designer and later as an embroider. The Fiskars Classic never left her side it was like the scissors were her best friend. She kept the Classic scissor in a drawer, for fabric only!

I tell you, I’ve watched the scissor glide through fabric like butter countless hours. Later it was the Fiskars embroidery scissors that helped my mum with her stitching adventures.

The blunt tip scissor, a friend she passed on to me as soon as I could hold a scissor. With my new friend, she encouraged me to create and always finding out more.

To learn how and why things worked or didn’t. I learned how to be willing to fail (over and over) and having a sense and curiosity to try new things. Whether the creations were big or small, each moment was magical to me, and still is.

I’m truly grateful for the solid foundation and talent she passed on – so that I’m able to cultivate and to pass on my creativity and encourage you to create and make something today.
