Remember the days when you could glue some macaroni to a piece of paper and you were all set for Mother’s Day?? Well, those days are gone and it’s time to up your game with a handmade gift your Mom will hang on her wall for years. We love a little wine with family dinners at my house, so I wanted to create a rustic holder, stocked with my Mom’s favorite Sterling Wines. First step was finding the perfect board. My Mom grew up on a farm, so I thought she would really love a piece of reclaimed barn wood. To hold the wine, inspiration hit when I spotted a newspaper holder hanging off a neighbors mail box. I gave them a copper makeover, and screwed each into my board, added a little chalkboard paint and done! Steps, supplies, and my favorite Sterling Wines picks after the break.

Tops 3 favorite Sterling Wines:

Sterling Napa Valley Chardonnay – sip while ringing in grilling season with some grilled shrimp or fish on your back patio. It has a rich, golden character with ripe fruit and flagrant oak spices. Sun-kissed apple, peach, lemon curd and caramel are lifted by a bright citrus and flanked by toasty spices. The barrel contribution leaves a honey and almond impression across the finish.

Sterling Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc – Pairs beautifully with simple sandwiches and your favorite cheese. The NV Sauvignon Blanc begins on the nose with fragrant aromas of white peach and bright floral notes. Stone fruit and honeydew melon continue on the palate, accented by ripe ruby grapefruit.

Sterling Platinum – Perfect for celebrating Mothers Day! Sterling Platinum is the combination of Sterling’s finest grapes and state-of-the-art winemaking. Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, this classic Bordeaux-style blend has a big, inky-black profile led by distinct aromas of cocoa, espresso, toast and black currant. A bold weight of black-cherry fruit washes across the palate with unrelenting intensity. Mouth-coating tannins and caramel pastry notes extend into a long and satisfying finish.
